ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Karis Zanetta Cheng is an emerging textile-based fashion designer. As a designer she is captivated by the emotion, history and memories that are embedded within colour and material.

Karis is fascinated by the tacit knowledge held within materials that allow textiles to become a canvas for untold stories and alternative narratives. She works instinctively and intuitively to uncover and represent these revelations through dyeing, weaving, stitching and printing.

Karis is inspired by her personal heritage as a third culture kid that was born in New Zealand, has parents from Singapore and Malaysia, ancestors from China and is now living and working in Sydney, Australia. She interweaves and remixes all these different aspects of her culture and they influence how she processes, creates and reimagines what fashion is.

Karis is dedicated to designing consciously with sustainable and ethical practices at the heart of the brand identity.

KARIS ZANETTA THE LABEL aims to catalyses curiosities about diverse perspectives and ways of knowing becoming a platform to express the complex relationships we have with our past traditions, present experiences and future desires.
